The Comstocks from Bioshock Infinite: Progress

comstocksWhen I played Bioshock Infinite I thought I was totally going to cosplay Elizabeth. I took lots of ref shots as I played, but I was also fascinated with Lady Comstock’s outfit as well. Her’s is similar to Elizabeth’s, but in a more classy Victorian lady kind of way. Eventually my boyfriend, Andrew, said something like “Hey I should cosplay Comstock because I have a beard.” And it began, I was determined that we would be the Comstocks!

These costumes are pretty straightforward. I rushed most of the pieces and didn’t remember to take as many progress pics as I usually do, sorry! Funnily enough, I actually busted my butt to make a grey suit for Comstock, and I ended up hating it. The fabric was polyester, worst decision ever! I couldn’t press it without it melting, ugh. So I re-made the whole thing out of a bottomweight black cotton fabric, and I think it looks soooo much better. I did this the week before my shoot so I had even less time to take progress pics.

So Comstock’s coat is made from a Simplicity pattern. I just added front pockets and the bias tape. The vest is from the same pattern and made from a white paisley patterned cotton, creme lining, and a striped creme satin fabric I had leftover. The pants are made from a McCall’s pattern and pretty much made exactly as the instructions said.

Lady Comstock’s skirt is just a simple easy skirt with an invisible zipper in the back. Its made from slate blue cotton stretch sateen. The petticoat is exactly the same, except it has a drawstring and off-white lace, made with off-white cotton. Her undershirt is a pattern I just made up. Its wide enough to slide over the head, no zippers needed, just a one button enclosure behind the neck. Its made from regular ivory cotton sateen and really nice lace I found at Joann’s. The bolero is a Simplicity pattern, made from the blue cotton sateen with off-white bias tape added. Even though I made a mock, the corset turned out way to small at first, causing me not to be able to finish it for Dragon Con. I added a panel later to make it fit for the photoshoot. Her hat is just a flat oval shape I made up and added lace, ribbon, and a button to. I’m wearing a brown poof clip from Arda. The boots are gorgeous ivory Tavistocks from American Duchess. I splurged, and it was worth it. :P

This was yet another rushed project so I was bad about taking progress pics. In fact after Dragon Con I participated in a Bioshock Infinite photoshoot and made an entirely new suit for Comstock, and I didn’t take ANY progress pics xD. Well here’s what I have!
